Quadriga - Khashoggi Disappeared - Death by Decree?

The fate of Saudi journalist and critic of the regime Jamal Khashoggi has raised concern around the world. Are authoritarian states now openly using kidnap and assassination as weapons against opposition activists? Guests: Rick Noack (Washington Post), Daniel-Dylan Böhmer (Welt), Najat Abdulhaq (DW)

Rick Noack is a foreign affairs reporter for the Washington Post, for which Khashoggi also worked as a commentator. He covers Europe and international security issues and says: "Politically motivated kidnappings or killings indicate a new level of foreign policy assertiveness. Especially as the West lacks leadership in defending human rights."

Daniel-Dylan Böhmer is an editor for the German daily newspaper “Die Welt”. His fields of interest are Turkey and the Middle East. And he says: “In a polarised world, particularly journalists become targets, because they act in between political forces.”
